Time to boot the "seniors" or let them play a lost WC?

Well another day another excruciating loss :(!

The way to get out this rut is strengthening our domestic structure (starting from street, school, club, cricket etc). Personally I would start by scrapping departmental cricket and building it on the following states Fata, Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir, Balochistan and KP which would be run by their respective "cricket associations" which would work under the PCB - ok sorry gone of track, let me get to my point :p.

    Since that would be a long term option let's think of a quick short term fix, the WC (majority agree) is out of our hands but the way I see it is we have 2 options;

    1) Keep Misbah as captain, let the likes of YK, Afridi basically the "senior brigade play" and tell them this is their last WC and that they must retire after it regardless of results. The reasoning behind this is to avoid any "PCB didn't respect me" and potential media lobbying by these players or avoiding the situation that arised with YK's recent dropping from the ODI squad.

(With this option you're waiting till after 2015 to try and change your fortunes)

    Or

    2) Chuck out non performing seniors! Hand the captaincy to a youngster (I would say Maqsood) and build a young squad right now and use the WC as experience for them rather than crash out with non performing seniors. This way we can build a squad of 30 players play them on a rotation base whilst sending the others out on A tours to make their transition easier.

(With this option you're changing your whole set up now and getting rid of "experience" with only months to go to the WC)

So, option 1 or option 2?

Option 2 ofcourse but the problem is the moment we chuck our non performing seniors they will jump up shouting unfair. I mean when younis khan was dropped some of the statements was " bash your head in the wall" worthy like one were they were saying younis khan should be preferred over players who have only played 10 to 20 games irrespective of performance. Just imagine the storm coming.
IF PCB does this then they must be strong and they must be well prepared to take alot of mud-slinging and will forever be condemned that they threw out seniors however the result will be that we will have a good side that will be the united combination of our entire limited resources and we will be able to groom a newer captain and newer players and not too mention some of them will go on to become permanent fixtures who will get bowling and batting records.
Plus the experience those youngsters will take in those conditions, of that big stage and of the WC will be invaluable and as they play on PCB repairs the domestic structure with first of all lowering the number of teams rather than increasing them to create more competition.

Let's do what the England football team did during the World cup in Brazil.

Majority of the squad compiles the best youth players that have performed with only a couple of seniors, See how they do and we'd know which ones are ready for the next major tournament.

We won't be getting out of the group with this team in the WC that's for sure.

So we might as well prepare a team that could do in the next one instead.

Yes most of us would take that, a bit like how France was at this years FIFA World Cup. If they play the same squad next time they will be a force to reckon with.

Do nothing but just to kick out non working PCB officials who r sucking salaries for doing nothing and invest the same amount on your players playing in domestic level after do so for at least 4 to 5 years u will have best breed of players ready to service ur country. Wrong management wrong system create such embarrassment

No point sending youngsters to make a debuts in a world cup.

Prudent thing would have been to play youngsters from the last two years leading up to the world cup.

    Current team

    Ahmed (youngster)
    Sarfraz ( youngster)
    Asad ( youngsterish)
    Misbah ( OLD)
    Umar ( youngster)
Fawad ( middle, approaching 30 but few matches)
    Shahid ( OLD)
    Wahab ( middle)
    Raza ( youngster)
    Zulfiqar ( old...wont play WC)
Irfan ( old but few matches)

5/11 Youngsters who after this world cup are young enough to play another
Fawad/Wahab will be 30 in next world cup ( still reasonably young).

7/11 can be therefore called youngsters.

Irfan has only played a few matches...despite his age lets call him a youngster ( in terms of experience).

    8/11 are youngsters.

3/11 are old - Misbah, Afridi and Babar....

So non performing seniors are therefore Misbah and Afridi. Will dropping these two cause the whole team to improve?

The English media for once didn't over hype their side and accepted Roy's strategy.

The conditions aren't conducive in Pakistan for bold statements. Journalists will start sharpening their pens and knives will be drawn. Nobody is brave enough to put their reputation on the line and our analysts/pundits aren't capable of thinking long term so a young side will just get shot down.

Disappointing performance yet again. What's the point of Misbah and Afridi in the side? Doesn't actually look as if Misbah is doing any good captaincy out there most of the time, and his special Tuk Tuk just pushes us back. Afridi hasn't the magic with the ball neither with the bat.

    We should go to the world-cup with xi;

    Shehzad (opener)
Sarfraz (wk) (full-time wk and opener)
    Maqsood (c)
    Fawad (Game Setter)
    U Akmal (Run Scorer)
M Hafeez (One of our main bowlers)
    (Introduce new youngster)
    Wahab (Crucial Role)
    Junaid (Young & Talented)
Babar (or Ajmal if he returns)
    Raza (Youngster)
    Irfan (Our gunner)

Atleast we can go positively into the worldcup and even if we get trashed in matches, we haven't lost anything because we have a total young team who will learn and we can be proud of ourselves).

Dump them now to start preparing for WC'19.

2015 is good as gone, no matter who plays.

What I have been saying for the past year or so. :lol
2015 would only be fun with a full on young team & a new aggressive captain, playing with utter freedom. The same young squad given time and experience would prove a serious force in 2019.

With the current squad, you would get similar games to watch in a family or group of friends as you did on Eid. :p

The Pakistani media with the so called TV analysts are gonna make big claims and rip apart the team no matter who plays or goes to the WC.

They are a bunch of pathetic people with no foresight. No one and especially PCB should take their words as they live on bashing, backtracking and hyperboles.

Too bad we have an even more pathetic board and selectors though, who might make the younger players scapegoats and keep them out in the cold afterwards which is a bigger concern than those "analysts" IMO.....

I think its too late to do anything right now, we are stuck. If we really wanted new talent for the WC. We should have started preparing 2 years ago

Get in the youngsters. They will gain experience.

We all know one thing: we won't be winning this cup.

Seniors or youngsters, we will lose so why not try out the youngsters and give them chances?
