Despite the fact that Pakistan are languishing at 9th spot in ODI cricket, no-one seriously thought Pakistan were now the equivalent of a minnow team. Most people assumed that this was just a bad run of games and that Pakistan could still recover and avoid having to qualify for major tournaments like a minnow.

Todays game should go some way towards correcting that misconception.

Pakistan are at number 9 in the rankings because they are not as good as the other 8 teams above them. Even Bangladesh swept Pakistan in their last ODI series.

The 171 runs in just 122 balls by Hales could just as easily have happened against any other minnow team. The ease with which the rest of the England batting lineup scored 50s would not look out of place against a minnow side from 10 years ago.

But these days even minnow teams like Afghanistan and Ireland are not this easy to score against in ODI cricket. The Pakistani ODI team is a totally broken unit.

They lack confidence, they lack leadership and they lack focus. England took advantage of that in the 3rd ODI and made it obvious to those Pakistani fans who were still trying to pretend that this is just a bad run of games.

England didn't just make it rain, they made it Hales.
