sorry for double posting
they should just melt the glaciers together and solve the water crisis.
Kahan ho Sir John ?
You can't expect such a issue to be resovled over one days talks with a cup of tea. The Indians themselves said this before going into the talks, a matter of national security is not dealt with in one meeting and will take time. The Indians find this a very important part as do the Pakistanis, so this is something that will take time to resolve.
The point is that both countries have lost so much over this glacier that none is going to roll back any soon. Indians have occupied most of the high points of this glacier, their causalities are much higher, but they are not going to vacate that glacier unless and until their current positions are marked. Once those postions have been been marked that becomes an international border. On the other hand, Siachen was always Pakistan's area right from 47. It was undoubtedly illegally annexed by India, and Pakistan wouldn't want Indian positions to be marked. So i don't see any improvement in the situation anytime soon. This area would continue to be yet another bone of contention between India and Pakistan
vacant the palace,
thats a very nice suggestion. they can just rent the place for wedding ceremonies etc? both armies could share the profits.
Why dont india vacate what is sovereign territory of pakistan and is occupied by india via force?
~$300 and ~$100 million expense too much for both govt
Its part of the broader Kashmir conflict.
Yeah, completely agree. There are two possible solutions here:
1. Pakistan vacate the area of J&K it occupies in accordance with the UN resolution of '47
2. India and Pakistan deal with the situation on a bilateral platform in accordance with the Simla agreement of '71.
Which one do you prefer?
I prefer that Pakistan and India revisit the Water agreement, declare the LOC as the international border, India vacates Siachin glacier. For all practical purposes the borders can't change anyways. So whats the point in dragging the issue any more causing more grief to people.
