Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first. Currently they're 160/3 in 40 overs. They have 10 overs left with 7 wickets in hand, a score of upto 250 is still on the cards.

On kiwi pitches any total over 240 will be hard to chase but for a change we have a Pakistan team that is more famous for their batting than their bowling. With guys like Babar Azam, Azeem Ghumman, Ahmed Shahzad and Rameez Aziz in the side we shouldn't have too much trouble chasing down most totals.

Our pace bowling doesn't seem to be firing thus far, Bangladesh have suprised me to say the least as they are currently 196/4 after the 45th over.

Babar Azeem, Azeem Ghumman and Usman Qadir have been the outstanding performers so far during the world cup.

Bangladesh have had a strong u19 side for the last 2 or 3 u19 World Cups. Shakib Al Hassan is a product of those strong teams which somewhat explaisn his winners mentality as opposed to some of the senior Bangladesh players.

Keep an eye on Raza Hassan too, he's supposed to be better than Usman Qadir!

Looks like my prediction was spot on, Bangladesh have made exactly 250 runs.

Now it's time to see if this Pakistan u19 teams fabled batting lineup really is as good as we're lead to believe! Shahzad and Aziz need to step up and contribute in this game.

    Pakistan 31/0 after 10 overs.

A steady start to say the least, both Bangladeshi opening bowlers have bowled well judging by the scorecard.

Two quick wickets and Bangladesh have pegged it back, both Babar and Ghumman need to up the rate in order to achieve a victory here.

    Pakistan 118/2 after 32 overs.

Pakistan are 110/1 after 30 overs. They need 141 runs in 20 overs at 7.05 runs an over. Ahmed Shahzad may have scored fifty but he really killed the run rate whilst doing it!

It wont be easy to go at 7 runs an over from now on.

Ahmed Shahzed is such a selfish player, only playing for himself it seems by looking at the scorecard..he played in total test match mode..that is pathetic..no wonder why his ODI strike rate is around 50..

The captain really needs to play a captains innings here if Pakistan are to win this one..Pakistan 122/2

I dont agree with your assessment of shahzad...

1)yeah i too was disappointed with the slightly over cautious approach from him, but it did give Pak a good platform, 100+ opening stand looks better than 40 runs in 3 overs with 2 down to me...and its not that Pak were chasing 300+ in this game, which demanded bang bang opening stand....so I wouldnt b mad at him....

    2) 2ndly, u have to remember that he fell for 0 or 1 in his previous game so he needed some time in middle to shake that failure off....u can also take that game as an example for what happens if 2 wickets fall early in inning....we won that game cuz we were only chasing 99 but this one with 250 to chase, fall of early wickets would have been disastrous.

    3) The reason his strike rate is around 50's is because in international ODI's he has played against Aus and not like Salamn Butt who scored helllava runs against BD,ZIM, India in last couple of runs, thus giving people a false impression of a fine ODI player.

I understand what you're saying Bouncer but Shahzad has already earnt himself a bit of a rep as a player who looks out for himself above everything else. I hope he changes as he matures but if not he could be our next Akhtar.

Merc...where have you seen/heard about this rep of shehzad?

I would like to know because i really liked to look of this guy after seeing him in UAE and then in T20, he is very raw, but to me I'd have given him more chances last season than given them to Butt to get one 100 out of him and I am very +ive that he would have given us more than what Butt gave us.

I can't really give names out because people usually say this sort of stuff in confidence but one person that was on the record about it was Aqib Javed. Here's an extract from my interview with him...

...the metnion is rather vague but sometimes you have to read between the lines.

Coming back to Ahmed, Yes It seems like the idea that he is the next big thing has probably gotten to him... But one also has to understand our culture, where seniors demand jeee hazooouri 24/7 from juniors and may be if ahmed was slightly arrogant and didnt suck up to one seniors/old players and that guy made sure that his bad reputations gets made public...

What an excellent game this was, damn if our senior team could have this fighting spirit within them..sad really! But Bouncer bro, I was going by reading that interview that Merc just quoted..the thing I am trying to say is that he needs to sort out his attitude..he was a massive failure in the recently concluded Quid E Azam trophy..maybe bowlers have found his weakness or something..but the guy has scored nothing lately..even though I have heard that he has a solid technique to be an opener..all in all excellent win for Pakistan U19..will certainly boost there confidence..and with that Bangla are out..

Lets see how he does in Quarter final and onwards...I am always a believer in someone getting proper/consistent chances before we can declare him failure or not an option.

He is my future opener for Pak along with Umar amin, damn it shehzad prove me right.

I really like Shahzad as a batsman and I hope he grows out of the unjustified sense of self-importance that he has already acquired.

Before his debut Umar Akmal was considered a slogger and Shahzad was the future of Pakistan's batting. Look at the two of them now.

I'd like to see any two of Shahzad, Amin, Azeem or Azhar Ali tried out as openers. They all have what it takes but are they ready? Also it wouldn't hurt to see Nasir Jamshed and Yasir Hameed back in the mix too.

Are they ready...well...the only way we'll find out is by giving them consistent/long run.....there's no other way, is there?

I disagree with Jamshed, Hameed Yes...guy has technique, enough international exposure.... and from what i remember, he can hold on to ball thrown his way too...(he sucked against anil kumble in 07 but i am very certain that he is smart enough to have recover from that patch)...too bad he didnt have a powerful father in law.

Hameed would be perfect for the Test and ODi side but as you mentioned he doesn't have any connections.

hameed would be perfect for tests only IMO, I dont think the ODI post 2006 is same as before 2006, now it really is bang bang cricket and PLUS we have Kamran to use as opener...which is a huge asset IMO, which is not utilized enough

It's the shame Babar wasn't able to bring up his well deserved centruy, nevertheless a good performance from the lads. The pace bowling has got me worried though, since they haven't really been able to the get the early wickets, therefore putting too much pressure on our spinners.

Pakistan will take on India on saturday and it will be shown on Skysports in the UK, I will most definitely be watching it.
