Why do you not have any other option other than two who are proven non performer against Tier 1 teams or under any pressure situations?

Afridi, IMO, did quite well as a captain but not sure if it will enhance his performance.

Either way, this is the team I'd play:

Imran Nazir, Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed, Umar Akmal(k), Asad Shafiq, Rameez Raja jr, Hammad Azam, Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Sami

    Ahmed Shehzad
    Mohammad Hafeez (captain)
    Umar Akmal (w/k)
    Shoaib Malik
    Shahid Afridi
    Hammad Azam
    Sohail Tanvir

    Raza Hassan
    Saeed Ajmal
    -----------
    Aizaz Cheema
    Junaid Khan
    Haris Sohail
    Yasir Arafat

It's not fair to sack Hafeez as captain after just two T20s. So for now he remains the captain though if we lose 6-0 to Australia, some drastic action may have to be taken.

The wicketkeeper is a tough one. I've gone for Umar because...

    a) It frees up some space for an extra batsman or bowler if needed
    b) T20s are ultimately about runs and our batting is weak so we cannot really afford to have a keeper who is failing with the bat. Perhaps I would replace Cheema with a keeper in the squad in case Umar gets injured or drops every catch that comes his way.

I've gone for Sohail Tanvir because I feel he has earned his place with recent performances. But it was a tough call between him and Arafat in the starting 11. We also have two more bowling options in Aizaz and Junaid, though again it was a tough call whether to replace one of them with a batsman.

Cannot believe people want to drop Hafeez from the T20 side really! I'd keep Hafeez at 3 and open with Shehzad & Jamshed. Malik would be in my T20 side for sure.

    Jamshed
    Shehzad
    Hafeez
    Umar
    Malik
    Hammad
    Kamran
    Afridi
    Tanvir
    Gul
    Ajmal

    ------------

    Nazir
    Cheema
    Sami
    Raza Hasan

    Azam
That side has way to many bowlers. 8 bowling options in total and we shouldn't have that especially when bowling is our strong suit and our batting is weak.

Yes, good point it probably does.

Maybe Raza Hassan can sit out for a batsman.

You keep Misbah as captain in T20?
I like Misbah very much but just in ODI's and tests. I think t20 formate is not suitable for him now a days because everybody is criticizing him badly.

Not sure Tanvir's fielding is an acceptable standard in T20.

He probably gives up 10 runs in the field, so add that to his economy rate.

    It's a tricky one this, really. Well my ideal line-up would be;
    1. Mohammed Hafeez (C)
    2. Ahmed Shehzad
    3. Asad Shafiq
    4. Shoaib Malik
    5. Umar Akmal
    6. Hammad Azam
    7. Kamran Akmal (WK)
    8. Shahid Afridi
    9. Umar Gul
    10. Junaid Khan
    11. Saeed Ajmal
Reserves: Nasir Jamshed, Imran Nazir, Raza Hassan, Aizaz Cheema/Sami.

    ------------

I've kept Hafeez as captain. Though some want to drop him. I know, he hasn't been performing too well as of lately and thus shouldn't be playing, but it is unfair to strip him off captaincy just after a few games. We do have some T20's to get practise in, maybe he will gain his form back then [here's hoping he does though]. Plus, he is the captain, so if he doesn't play we don't really have any other to give the captaincy to.

Also, I have chose Ahmed Shehzad to accompany Hafeez in opening because he is genuinely an explosive and aggressive batsman, and to be honest that is what we need in our team. However, if he carries on batting in an Afridi-esque manner [i.e. little footwork and just going after every ball not caring about the outcome] he shall have to be replaced by either one of Nasir Jamshed or Imran Nazir. But, ideally, I would want him to do well so that he can book his place, at least in the T20 team.

And yes, I have bought Kamran Akmal back into my XI! I think, in T20's his wicket-keeping wasn't so bad, IIRC. But that doesn't mean he should come back for ODI's! Kamran Akmal is another explosive batter that we need, I have put him low down the order because above the order we have our fair share of aggressive batters, so he should accompany the inexperienced Hammad. If it turns out that Kamran is doing what he's best at again [dropping catches] then we can always get Umar to replace him.

Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal's inclusion in my XI don't need to be justified. They are proved match winners in this format. An integral part of our T20 team, and usually do their job and lead us to victory.

Where as, I have added Asad Shafiq in just for that calming [stabilising, maybe?] influence, but not as if Asad is a major tuk-tukker, he has all the shots and can hit when he wants. Shoaib Malik, for that purpose too, he's a utility player, and is amidst the inexperienced in the line-up so can help them around a bit.

Pakistan just need to keep Misbah as far away from the T20 team as possible.

He thinks way too slowly for T20 and that's very harmful with his captaincy and batting. Not to mention his recent record in LOI is pretty bad. Way below 30%.

My squad would be: Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad, Shoaib Malik, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi*, Hammad Azam, Haris Sohail, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Sami, Raza Hasan, Sadaf Hussain/Rahat Ali/Junaid Khan

Throw Raza Hasan into the deep end like we did with Amir, we might need him on the spinning pitches or if Ajmal falls out of form.

    Starting XI:

Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal+, Asad Shafiq, Hammad Azam, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi*, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Sami

It doesn't matter. At the end, it all comes down to Afridi-Malik, Ajamil-Afridi, Gul-Wahab. I am not very confident about the openers, but the given history of Pakistan cricket especially the partnership between Afridi-Malik always came useful for Pakistan in world stage like WCT20, and the similar will be repeated, Insha'Allaah!

Oh yaar I don't really support Misbah's T20 captaincy but Afridi has been our worst captain in the format ever, taking us from clinical world beaters to, gradually, a shadow of that side. I'd actually rather have Malik as captain, I think Hafeez buckles big time under pressure of captaincy

Afridi hasn't been a good captain in t20 but I think he's a good captain in general, like we saw in the world cup. I would prefer Malik as captain too but I'm not sure if that would happen.

^ It's too late for Malik as captain. Better to continue with Hafeez or Afridi as captain, and i would not encourage Misbah (liability in T20) to continue as captain - that would mean Malik will no longer be in the T20 squad. Malik batting performance is exactly what we need for the upcoming Australia T20 series, WC T20, and Champion League, Allahu Alim!

    I agree with post 20.

Whilst I appreciate that Kamran has been one of our best batsmen in previous world T20s and that he can't hurt us too much with his keeping, IMO the ship has sailed. He's well short of recent international (and even domestic) experience and it would be a huge risk bringing him in. Let's remember he's not one of the more popular members in the team.

Malik has done enough to convince me he's getting back to the player we saw in his 2007-2009 prime.

The openers are attacking talented youngsters but not sloggers. Jamshed hasn't disappointed since his comeback. Shehzad perhaps has a bit to prove but hopefully he can do that in the upcoming t20s against Australia, after all, he has been doing well in domestic t20 tournaments. The right-left opening combination is also useful.

Hammad is a good late order hitter and Hafeez should play better without the pressure of opening and the new ball threat. The rest of the lineup speaks for itself.

The only thing I might change is Malik at 3, Umar at 4.

I was preparing for my paper suddenly I heard that Imran Nazeer, Abdul Razzak and Kamran Akmal called back in T20's format. I was jumping with joy. What a great news for me.
I love Imran and Razzak and our team might not complete without these two.
