The former Pakistan captain, Aamir Sohail, has praised the performances of Pakistani captain, Misbah ul Haq and has given him the title of ‘Cautiously Confident Captain’. He also praised the mental tactics of Saeed Ajmal before the commencement of the series.

The Green Shirts defeated the English team in the first of the three-match Test series at Dubai by a comprehensive margin of 10 wickets and are in the driving seat to clinch this series.

There has been criticism on Misbah for being overly defensive at times, but Sohail has backed the Pakistani captain by saying that it is better to play defensively and win rather than lose by playing aggressively.

Pakistan cricket was in disarray following the spot-fixing controversy in 2010, but Misbah has played a huge role in uniting the team in testing times. Since then, the fortunes of the Pakistan team have improved, and they have slowly crept up the Test rankings. Presently they are formidable opponents for all the top teams of the world.

Sohail feels that credit must go to Misbah for doing such a fantastic job in enhancing the image of Pakistan.

The former captain said, “I was thinking and thinking of a title for Misbah after this excellent victory and I’d heard a lot of talk about Misbah being defensive and negative, but eventually I came up with the title for Misbah of a Cautiously Confident Captain.”

The Pakistani off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal also played an important role in Pakistan’s success in the Dubai Test by picking up 10 wickets in the match, which included seven wickets on the first day of the match that led to the eventual defeat of the English team.

Sohail feels that it was a great tactic by Ajmal to talk about a mystery ball before the series started and it was playing on the minds of the English batsmen during the first Test.

“I think the masterstroke was when before the series had even commenced, Saeed Ajmal announced that he was going to surprise the England team with a new delivery, the Teesra. As a result of the comment by Saeed, the English batsmen were left trying to fathom out what the Teesra was,” said Sohail.
