I was watching the news on PTV today and they mentioned that Pakistan will play their pending South African home series in UAE. The matches will be slotted in for October.

I can't help but think about how weak our bowling line-up will be without Asif. Imagine the proteas without Steyn or the Aussies without Johnson and multiply it by 10. Asif is a much bigger player for us and losing him for this series will be hard to get over.

Part of me wishes we'd just played in South Africa instead with the hope we could host them for the next series if the situation improves. After a summer on English wickets as preparation it would be our best chance of fighting them at home.

So what do you think? Can we survive without Asif?

I wish they would have scheduled in SA too.

If the series is in UAE then this gives an opportunity for PCB members to go and spend some time with their family and friends in the area...so every time PCB schedules a series they dont care about their best best to win a test match (i.e Asif) as long as they can meet up and spend some time with their family/friends.

It would be a big blow not to have Asif in the team, however I can see turning pitches being produced in order to give us the competitive edge.

How long is Asif banned from the UAE?

Asif master bowler but all out paindoo. I wonder how much eduaction he has had before joining team. There is no doubt he will be missed, flat or seaming pitches he's gold mine to team. Pakistani needs him playing in all formats.

Can pakistan win without him they can if batsman put their weight into it.

Its his own fault, the prat thought about himself and his 'needs' rather then anything else.

Unless we can get some 'diplomatic understanding' with UAE, he'll be missing A LOT of cricket for Pakistan in the future.

I'd rather it was in SA personally. In regards to batting, whether its in UAE or SA would make no difference (still useless) but our bowling would have been MUCH stronger

Rather have it in SA as Asif will be eligble. It also could be a good learning curve for youngsters such as Aamir and Umar.

South Africa will be 350 for 1 on day 1 of a test match; I think every sane fan would care :| .

PCB has to get this ban lifted somehow (too bad they are too busy imposing their own bans and fines on the players).

I have always believed Asif's story regardless people agree or not as I know a thing or two about Hakeem medicine and it is widely used in Pakistan people just fail to realize this. I was very upset with Asif at first however seeing Asif working on his game day in and night out at NCA for months changed my mind about him.

While he was banned he was at the NCA bowling all the time and working on his game. That too me is dedication and strong work ethic. I don't know the guy and I can careless if he is educated or not because half of the country isn't.

Pakistan's loss. PCB has to get this banned removed.

Asif is a great bowler and his greatness is matched by being a great yokel. He needs a full time manager to keep him out of trouble.

their team is way better than ours anyway, we don't stand a chance against them in Test cricket...and like I've stated, opportunity to watch Pakistan live trumps the appearance of Asif.

one thing I would like to mention is that it is such a small hurdle to overcome, one phone call at proper ministerial level and this ban would be a thing of the past!

That's normally the case AZ but this has become such a high profile case that it's possible the Dubai authorities may now view any leniency for Asif as a sign of them backing down to Pakistan.

Are the venues finalised yet? I hope Sharjah is one of them. It would be great to see International cricket back at Sharjah.

Pakistanis there might not be well respected in terms of work force however Pakistan government has plenty of say far as I know. They can get this resolved if they wanted. Get Zardari to make the call :) Dubai is where he is going to fled once he is kicked out anyway.

It's easy to dismiss Asif on dead pitches but he's the sort of bowler that can turn a match with an inspired spell. Besides if the last few games we've had on middle east pitches are any indication then they're not as dead as most of us think they'll be.
