Cricinfo is reporting that Iqbal Qasim has sent his resignation to PCB COO Wasim Bari. I hope this isn't an empty pre-planned gesture where Bari is under instructions to refuse to accept Qasim's notice.

Qasim needs to take Intikhab Alam, Ijaz Butt and Mohammad Ilyas (Farhat's father-in-law) with him. These guys and their egos are what's killing Pakistan cricket.

The test team was desperate for Younis Khan's experience and ability but Ijaz Butt and Iqbal Qasim refused to send him. They chose to fan their own egos by 'teaching YK a lesson' about respecting authority and waiting till the tests were over before sending him to take part in the ODIs.

We don't need these old men and their seniority complex nor do we need their outdated ideas about respecting authority even when the authority is making all the wrong decisions.

It's time we saw people like Rashid Latif, Aamir Sohail, Waqar Younis, Aqib Javed and Mudassar Nazar in positions of REAL authority. It's time we let the 90s generation run cricket and hopefully they can bring their winners mentality with them.

Finally someone showing some responsibility, Its a good news and great to see it happening in Pakistan especially :).

I was watching the Ary news and it has been confirmed, while Muhammad Ilyas was quoted saying that Qasim should not resign as its not his fault but the teams fault that they lost the series, This Ilyas guy is a clown and instead of steping down he is backing Qasim to take back his resignation.

Hogwash. The real culprits would continue to sail smoothly. Other then YK decision the rest of the team was OK. Its the folks within the team, the groupings that need to be eliminated. As a short term measure we need a no-nonsense character the likes of Majid Khan with the authority and power to boot out any individual (no matter how good or senior he might be) and discipline the team. The team should learn to bow to authority.

Imran was succesful because he did just that. No matter how good a player was, when he felt that he might be teaming up against him, he would remove him. That is how you are going to control a group of extremely indisciplined people..

And as i write, GEO has started playing "Kitna Haaray ga Baba ray"

This is where i disagree. For those people who are calling for Butt's head, let me assure you it won't resolve any problem. As much as i dislike him, because he has taken us back quite a few years, but i simply cannot understand the correlation between the job of a chairman and team not performing well. Yes if he were to be removed due to some other issues, worldcup hosting failure, financial failures, infrastructure failures then it would be Ok. But for that they have to wait for sometime. Otherwise it would once again be the success of the dissenting group within the team, who would be in a position to blackmail the future boards.

    Dear
Chairman of Crikcet Board Play a Key Role In The Cricket of any team.
Because if chairman arranged deserve selection commete
Then the commete will select deserve players.
and then players will perform on the field.
I only dislike ejaz butt as chairman because he doesn't Play any role For the good future of Pakistan cricket.

    Its Simple
The Team Selection Not Select Players On Merit.
Look at Asim kamal, yasir hameed, imran nazir, sohail tanveer
These Players continuesly perform well in domestic level cricket.
On which thing they are not in the Current squad.
    Whats The Reason.
Thats why all the credit goes to Selection commete for its bad selection.

These clowns really need to go. I am not very comfortable with Rashid Latif while he is a good guy he does have habit of making things up every once in a while. I would like to see Sohail and Ramiz back.

Under both of these guys we introduced new talent and also brought in Bob Woolmer. It was our home grown hero's who created all the hatred for Woolmer and now we can see what they have done. Pakistan needs a good coach or coaches.

The best coach at this point of time for the Pakistan is Maula Bakhsh the one being used in our Police Station drawing rooms. Its time for third degree treatment. Believe me a few hours in the drawing room and they will not even dream of Revolting. I also propose the team being accompanied by a Pakka Thanedar somewhere from Pind Dadin Khan with his loose lungi on top of his uniform and his bulging tummy. One glance from him and our players would die on the field rather then throw away the match.

Unlike others I do not believe the players are revolting against each other perhaps there are serious problems. All the players can be dropped at any point no one is going to risk their career and perform badly on purpose.

Malik is someone who has been named in recently by everyone trying to cause problems but when you look at the physical evidence there is no such thing happening. When Younis became a Captain he continued to pick Malik and also gave him more overs to bowl in some very important situations. Afridi pretty much has done the same thing...including kissing Malik. Yousaf has was shown getting help from Malik in the matches Malik played during some crunch times and Afridi did the same the other day and he held multiple talks with Malik.

If there is one person within the Pakistan team who always wanted to lead the team and openly said it...it has been Afridi and he recently shown what he is capable of when wanting to win...the only other person was Akhtar and he is nowhere near the team.

seriously this is a circus isn't it?

Just before you know we are at the bottom, we are still falling lol

But I must say I am happy with this decision that he has quit, now Inti and Butt need to go, want to see Aamir Sohail, Abdul Qadir, and Ehsan Mani there..would be ideal for Pakistan cricket!

Almost two months on and Ijaz Butt has successfully deflected attention for another failure on his watch and survived to fail another day.

He seems to have more lives than a cat.

Ijaz Butt is no visionary and he's not very good either like say Shehryar Khan... but I think to an extent the PCB heads are made scapegoats by Pak fans, media, etc now. it is fashionable to blame the PCB for EVERYTHING. what can Ijaz Butt do if 6 out of 11 players want to be captain and are happy to underperform to sabotage the other contenders? actually I take that back... what he can do is discipline them... which is what he has done and is still getting flak for it.

Ijaz Butt could turn water into wine but people would still complain that the wine wasn't... fancy enough... or whatever makes wine better.

I read Wasim's opinion on the PCB. and he said that some ex-cricketers will criticize the PCB no matter what it does - until they themselves become paid members of the PCB at which point sab accha hai. take Miandad for example. the guy is always whining... and yet is also part of the board setup. like wtf!!!

I get it the guy hit a very important six, won many matches and a world cup.. but he won them on the field. his on-field achievements don't qualify him for a management role. management should be left to people with management experience/education, MBAs, experience running large organizations effectively, etc.

and unfortunately, some of the guys who are perceived to be honest folks have some serious questions marks attached to them with regard to their temperament if not their integrity as well. for example, Rashid Latif might be a very honest guy but he is just as emotional if not more than Younis Khan. can we really afford a guy like Rashid in the PCB who is ALWAYS in the news? the PCB needs dignified people like Asif Iqbal who can put their head and work without needing to be in the news all the time. Rashid can't live without the limelight.

and then there is Aamir Sohail. the guy talks a good game. and yes, he was one of the fighters against match fixing which gives him credibility. but this is the same guy who handed out caps as if it they were on sale. he picked and dumped players if all cricket was going to end soon so everyone should get a turn. and this is also the guy who picked that bipolar retard Tauqeer Zia's incompetent son. that was the worst, most blatant case of nepotism I have ever seen. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. first I thought it is impossible to do something so retarded in this day and age and get away with it. then, I thought okay maybe the guy really has some talent... but the guy was useless. how can Aamir Sohail retain any credibility after that stunt?

and it goes without saying that he absolutely loves controversy... is provocative... always was in the news for the wrong reasons. and probably still is to an extent. not what PCB needs right now.

PCB needs low key people who're happy to stay in the background and do their work. bring in guys like Asif Iqbal, Rameez Raja, etc to handle the cricket side. and leave the business/management to people with business experience and education... though some like Rameez Raja can cross the boundary owing to their management education and experience as cricketers.

I just want some controversy free period. do not want to hear a peep out of anyone. everyone in PCB, Pak cricket, team, ex-players just stfu for like say six months. not a word. that would be heaven.

It's not about the handing out of fines and bans to players, for all we know they were fully deserved.

What irks me is that he's just as responsible if not moreso for the recent failures of the Pakistan team. Let's not forget this is the same guy who presided over the Lahore attacks and refused to accept any responsibility for the lax security.

He should have lost his job over that fiasco, the buck should always stop at the top. There was no enquiry or published results from that bloodbath yet he is happy to instigate enquiries over ball chewing and a bit of handbags at dawn.

The simple fact is that he should have had the decency to step down by now, not over one or two massive screwups but over repeated incompetence under his administration

I agree with MT on most of the accounts specially the bit about Pakistan fans always blaming PCB every time the team fails. I would like to point one thing out of his post though, where he has ripped apart most of the people who mean well for Pakistan cricket but not Asif Iqbal and Rameez Raja.

First of Asif Iqbal has a shady past with involvements in match fixing. Same for Rameez Raja besides the fact that when Rameez Raja was involved in PCB set up last time around there were allegations (with proof) of misappropriation against him.

I will admit that I have a soft spot for Asif Iqbal. yes, I've heard/read the rumors as well. but there is just something about the man. he's just so reserved, dignified and elegant. he chooses his words very carefully. he is a rare educated and dignified ex-cricketer along with Imran, Majid, Wasim Raja, etc. so I give him the benefit of the doubt. maybe that makes me a hypocrite. but I still have tons of respect for Asif sahib.

I'm not a fan of Rameez - the player or the commentator. but in his time in the PCB, we saw some rare stability. maybe the credit for that goes to Shehryar Khan... but again I'm giving Rameez some credit for bringing in Bob and adding some stability to the setup.

I just want to see people who think before they speak, people who are reserved, people who are professional. people who are mature, sensible, etc. can you imagine if you work at a bank and have a bad day that you call up the press and biatch about your boss about how old he is and how cannot get up and down the stairs and is going senile? if you can't, then, why should Aamir Sohail, Qadir, Miandad be allowed to do that?

Aamir Sohail now talks about giving time to whoever you pick as player or captain and supporting/sticking with him. well what did Aamir do when he was chief selector? he was picking and dropping players as if he was changing shirts.

I am not even going to say anything about Qadir and Miandad. except to say that they may have aged physically... but their mental age has not kept pace.

yes, I agree about that. I guess I've tried to forget that tragedy and embarrassment. but if there was one reason for Butt to lose his job, it was the Lahore attacks. he should have been sacked for that.

but I will disagree with Butt having to go for the performance of the team. while I don't like adhocism and all the power over pure cricketing matters such as choosing the captain, etc that the chairman has, I don't think any chairman can automatically improve the performance of the team. even Shehryar Khan who I'm a big fan of shouldn't get credit for the team's success. he should get credit for bringing in Woolmer and not sacking Inzi 50 times every month as per the demands of Pakistani fans.

the board chairman's only job should be on the management side and providing stability. he should have nothing to do with picking certain players, choosing the captain, etc. and he should not get credit or blame for the team's on-field success or failure. his job should be to create an environment off the field for players to excel and to manage domestic cricket.

I cant agree more with your opinion on us needing a reserved Chairman, someone whose brain processes information before engaging his lips. Both DNA and Butt cant seem to stop talking, if you dont stop talking long enough to think then how will you ever say anything sensible.

As for sacking him just for a team failure, no I wouldnt agree with that. I was talking specifically in Butt's case that he has overseen more failure than probably any Pak chairman in history. So he should go for the accumulation of incompetent decisions rather than just the Aus tour in isolation.

I honestly dont believe Pakistan cricket will be able to look forward or make the necessary changes as long as he's in charge.

It's been over 7 months since I made this thread and Ijaz Butt has been through around a dozen more controversies since then yet he's still there.

This isn't the sort of guy who will leave unless he's kicked out

Most of the Pakistanis are think skin. They will never quit till they are kicked out. All our politicians and generals they stick to their seats till it becomes inevitable. Same is the case with most of the nation.
