Speaking exclusively to Cricistan.com, Pakistan Team Manager Intikhab Alam has put to bed the idea that Asad Shafiq is a wicket keeper. I asked Intikhab if the information on Asad Shafiq's Cricinfo's profile is correct and whether Asad has ever kept wicket.

"No, it's not true. Asad Shafiq isn't a wicket keeper, he doesn't keep wicket and so he's not an option for us." replied Intikhab.

I then asked Intikhab about Umar Akmal's finger injury and whether he would be playing tomorrow.

"Umar has recovered and is fully fit and available for tomorrow's game, it's up to the captain and coach whether or not they pick him or who they replace him with if they do." Intikhab confirmed to Cricistan.com

Finally I told Intikhab Alam that everyone at Cricistan.com send their best wishes to the Pakistan team for tomorrows game.

I've spoken to a few cricketers and they all say the same thing, that Shafiq isn't a keeper and they dont remember him ever keeping wicket.

The Cricinfo profile is wrong, we should stop pushing for himt o keep wicket. No need to ruin one of the only decent batsmen to emerge for a long time.

Would be totally unfair to burden Umar Akmal or Asad Shafiq with the wicketkeeping gloves, both really need to focus on their batting form, especially Umar. Also, there is a lot of physical strains that comes with taking the gloves,so you don't want 2 talented youngsters picking up injuries either.

and i have been saying that for the last 6 months. Shafiq is not a keeper, he was just a keeper for 3 overs in a domestic game. Finaly now everyone will shut up.
