Codemasters have announced a cricket game being developed by an Australian based studio made up of the programmers who created the Brian Lara series and Ashes Cricket 2009.

The game will be called 'International Cricket 2010' and is due to be released by September of this year. It's only going to be on XBOX360 and PS3 which is a real shame because if it was on the Wii then it would be a good reason for me to buy one!!

I have always felt that cricket games lack in the actual gameplay. Its too repititive and the games usually start dying on you after a few days.

The graphics of the games have started improving but still they appear fidgety. For example, look at the bowling actions and you will notice that they use a "standard" action for every single bowler. Same thing goes for the batsmen who tend to bat in similar styles to each other.

Once a game is able to rectify such things, I think the games will sell like hotcakes.

That's a very good point. Football games were revolutionised when International Superstar Soccer (now knows as Pro Evo) introduced 'star players' into each team.

Konami didnt have the rights to use the real names of footballers so they gave each team a couple of recognisable players. Italy had Galfano (Baggio) with his trademark pony tail and Carboni (Ravanelli) with his unusual head of white hair. Then for Argentina you had Fuerte (Caniggia) with his headband and Redonda (Maradonna) with his curly hair!

Now every player in a football game is recognisable because the success of ISS drove the market forces. Sooner or later something similar will happen in the world of cricket games and hopefully they'll become enjoyable.
