    Reverse Sweep:

Invention credited to all time great Hanif Mohammad. Made popular & widely used in the 70's his brother Mushtaq Mohammad. Perfected by the fearless Javed Miandad

    Reverse Swing:

Former Pakistan bowler Sarfraz Nawaz was the founder of reverse swing during the late 1970s, and he passed his knowledge on to former team-mate and captain Imran Khan. Imran Khan mastered this very skillfully, and destroyed top class batting line ups.

Imran Khan trained the dynamic duo Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis of this art. The 2 W's brought the art to the cricket world's attention during the late 1980s and 1990s. The dynamic duo managed to make the old ball swing a considerable distance at pace in both directions, a skill few bowlers can master.

In a display of reverse swing in a Test match against Australia in 1979 in Melbourne, Sarfraz Nawaz took nine wickets in an innings. This included a remarkable spell of 33 deliveries in which he captured 7 wickets for 1 run. This is when cricket world noticed this new form of fast bowl.

Then torch of this new invention was carried by Wasim Akram. Wasim Akram then brought reverse swing to the public limelight but the man who really put the reverse into swing was Waqar Younis. Waqar Younis style was pitching fast and full.

    Doosra:

The doosra is a relatively new type of ball. Saqlain Mushtaq is credited with its invention, which was integral to both his success and the future of off-spin bowling, as it is unlikely that any off-spinner prior to him ever bowled a delivery which turned from leg.

Moin Khan is responisble for giving this delivery the name doosra. Moin Khan, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper, who would call on Mushtaq to bowl the "doosra" (the other one) from behind the stumps. Tony Greig, a commentator in one of these matches, eventually linked the word to the delivery and confirmed it with Saqlain in a post-match interview. This is how this urdu term became part of cricket culture

In 2004, Saqlain Mushtaq, claimed to have developed a new variant called as the teesra (or jalebi, lol) which is a top spinner in disguise of a off spin.

    Neutral Umpires:

Imran Khan introduced neutral umpires for the 1986 series between Pakistan and West Indies in Pakistan. He didn't want the West Indies to blame the umpiring if they were unable to win in Pakistan. The experiment worked and was later implemented in all Test matches.

Unfortunately the Windies never returned the favour and Pakistan have always been on the end of some terrible decisions in the West Indies.

Im not sure what it is but Saq's now has a jalaybi ball that he also has developed. From the name of it sounds like the ball is gonna move like a boomerang but you never know with Saqi, he is very talented ;)

    Slow Bouncers:

Wasim Akram introduced the slow bouncer during the 90s before that conventional wisdom was that short balls had to be bowled as fast as possible

Thanks for the info. Intikhab would have loved a jalebi bowler. Shame on Saqlain for taking too long to develop the ball

    Forfeiting a Test match:

I'm sure Inzamam was the only player to ever forfeit a test match in cricket history during the Hair controversy in England in 2006

Shoaib Akhtar is the first bowler in the world to break the 100 mph barrier. Shoaib Akhtar, The Pakistani right arm fast bowler, is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the world. He set an official world record by achieving the fastest delivery, when he clocked in at 161.3 km/ph (100.2 mph) in his bowling speed, twice at a cricket match. 5 wicket maiden

World first 5 wicket maiden was achieved by Mohammed Aamer in T20 world cup.
Aamer took three wickets in a five wicket-maiden over in a Twenty20 International match against Australia in the initial stages of the 2010 World Cup. The other two men were run out in the same over. This set a world record of three wickets for a bowler in Twenty20 and 5 wickets for a team in on over.

    FASTEST ODI 100

On 4 October 1996, playing his maiden international innings, Afridi hit the fastest One-Day century off 37 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi. His innings included 28 runs off one of Sanath Jayasuriya's overs, whose record he broke.

His general style of batting is very aggressive and attack oriented and has earned him the nickname "Boom Boom Afridi" for his fastest One Day International century. As of 21 February 2010, he has an ODI strike rate of 111.65 runs per 100 balls, the highest in the game's history. This attitude has been transferred to Test cricket as well, with Afridi scoring at a relatively high strike rate of 86.13 in Tests.

    Introduction of an inclined wedge

Javed Miandad introduced it during his coaching term. The wedge is placed on the good length spot (or a little closer to the batsman) and ball is chucked upon it to emulate in or out swing for batting practice when dealing with off the pitch movement.

    Tape Ball Cricket

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The concept of tape ball cricket is part of cricket culture in Pakistan.
Innovation and widespread use of tape ball cricket started in Pakistan nearly 3 decades ago (1980's). Tape ball concept didn't even exist in the world and recently it is only gaining acknowledgement. Talking to a doctor today from India, he said "tape ball cricket ka concept india mai hai hi nahi". Personally talking to many people from around the world, they say that the concept doesn't even exist in their countries.

In major urban areas like Karachi and Lahore where full sized cricket fields are a rare luxury, it is not uncommon to see cricket being played in narrow lanes and streets.

Tape-ball cricket is considered an integral part of Pakistani cricket and sports culture, with virtually every cricket playing youth being exposed to it very early in one form or the other. The tape ball's ability to generate bounce and speed has encouraged and influenced Pakistan's fast bowling traditions (allows development of quick arm action muscles), including pacemen such as Shoaib Akhtar. The ball also responds forcefully to powerful batting and stroke play, and has helped mold the pinch-hitting style of Shahid Afridi.

Although not recognized by official cricket bodies, the export of this concept from Pakistan, tape ball has gained popularity in England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies, but remains most popular and widely used in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and, to a lesser extent, in India and Sri Lanka.

A tape ball can also be used to mimic a seaming cricket ball by adding an extra layer of tape around the middle like a seam, the sides can be roughed to mimic conventional cricket ball swing. The tape ball is thus a decent compromise between safety and enthusiasm to the sport.
