So we have Azhar and Akmal trying to revive Pakistan from a pretty dicey situation of having 74/4 on the board. This got me thinking. Who do you guys think is the better of players from our new middle order?

Azhar, Asad and Akmal all have different styles of play but have similar average from the few matches that they have played in.
Azhar after 21 test innings has an average of 34.89, Akmal after 27 averages 36.08. Asad has played considerably less and after 6 innings averages 35.33

We have a partnership of 66 runs going with Azhar on 52* (off 152) and Akmal on 41* (off 58)

well all 3 are totally different players but shafiq is in the middle as he can play slow or fast whereas azhar is slow and akmal is fast.though akmal is easily the most talented but azhar is the most determined like yk.

I dont consider akmal as a test player at all.... he is like yuvraj singh and shud only b played when someone gets injured in the test side... Whereas Azhar is a gud test player(only) if his strike rate is even 10 or 15 its alright I personally think that khurram manzoor should be brought in and hafeez or taufeeq should bat 1 down..... shafiq should play after Misbah...

Azhar Ali is an exceptional test player in the mode of Amla he can develop his game for odis too , Umar Akmal is a superb limited overs player in the mode of Dilshan, Asad Shafiq is brilliant in tests and odis

    Asad Shafique

Asad is definitely better than A. Ali and U. Akmal. He can play test, odi and t20 while Azhar can only play tests and Akmal can only play odi and t20. I think Shafiq is young Muhammad Yousuf. I know he needs some improvements but still better then the duo.

What people always fail to realize is that batting in the end of the middle order is CONSIDERABLY easier than opening the innings or playing one down. At this stage, I would rate Azher Ali the highest because he is practically opening. Zaheer Abbas once played at the number 6 position in a test match, and said he wouldve averaged 60 if he played at that position. This is why I rate Azher the highest out of all. The quality batsmen is able to see off the new ball without losing his wicket, and then use the scoring oppurtunities when the ball gets old. That is the trick to test cricket. The batmen needs to rotate the strike and hit the ball to get it nice and soft, and then they can play easier.

Azhar is a genius. He has helped rescue and win Pakitsan tests from many testing situations. 3 of his best so far being:

    1) 51 in 4th innings vs Aus in July 2010. In only his 2nd international match he helped Pakistan chase down 180 by putting on a 100 run partnership with Farhat
    2) 92* in Pakistan's 1st innings vs Eng Aug in Aug 2010. Helped Pakistan get a crucial 75 run lead by holding the middle order together and batting intelligently with the tail
    3) 68 in 3rd innings vs Eng in Jan 2012. Helped take the initiative away from Eng after a top order collapse and put on a defend-able score
