This argument is only for T20's
I am proactively following this dudes t20 performances and it does appear that this dude shouldn't be an automatic selection for the T20 format. Horses for courses should be the medicine that should be administered, Asif's utility is in the test match arena is unquestioned, but come into the kitchen donning the t20 apron and huge cracks start to appear. Its time Pakistan should look towards other heads within the status quo as whatever asif is cooking is not chilly dippin smookin, at the end of the day the proof is in the pudding. Asif Micheal Jackson for all his moonwalking skills, is not keeping it real in the T20s, for his economy shoulders to around 8. On baking Windian wickets, they will spike. p.s. As mentioned already his economy is around 8 and today he got pasted for just about the same mark by some toothless nobodys. Another parallel to such is, his domestic economy mirrors what he is holding currently. Verdict rests.

Would you like to give your reason/s for why don't you want Asif in T20 team other than his E/R?

Cant bowl at the death to fill the Gul Role
Batting is Mcgrathesque and with Ajmal in the team, we cant bat with 9 players Fielding is average |

I definitely think he should be in the playing XI, not much for economy but he is a wicket taking player that takes wickets up front and puts the opposition under pressure. He usually ends up taking wickets of the danger men.
He has lost a bit of pace due to being out of the side but still is a great seam bowler and more importantly a wicket taking bowler. |

Although Rehman is a decent bowler we already have many spinners in the side which can bat aswell as bowl. Saeed Ajmal will always be in the side as a specialist spinner bacause he isnt easy to play and can contain the run rate.
Apart from Ajmal we have Afridi and Hafeez and maybe Fawad Alam all of these can bat aswell as bowl. We also have Aamer and Razzaq who will always make it into the playing XI. so to sum up; Aamer, Razzaq, Afridi and Ajmal will always be in the playing XI and will end up bowling their quota of 4 overs. Hafeez has been in very good form so he could easily be the 5th bowler so even if Asif who we need as a pace bowler is not on form we already have plenty of spin options. There isnt much use of having Rehman in the squad because we dont need another spin option and he will most likely not play any matches. |

Looking back at the 2007 T20 world cup he was a great bowler although his economy was slightly high he did take the wickets of the danger men.

With the reports suggesting slow pitches Asif will be an asset with his off cutters. He would be an automatic selection if you ask me.

Yeah that is what people fail to grasp he is not just an out right swing bowlers he has proven that he can bowl well on slow wickets. His record in Sri Lanka (similar wickets) speaks for itself.

Concerns regarding Asif are justified, although i dont agree he is not fit for the shorter version, but on these flat patta wickets of West Indies he maybe a weak link, at times. But lets not forget he is probably the only bowler who seem to create something out of nothing even with his pace. His skill of moving the new ball and seam movement is absolutely unmatchable at the moment. Plus we have not better replacement, Rehman maybe more effective on these wickets but he is less talented.
So Asif stays. His figures in todays warm up match against the zimbs are as follows: Mohammad Asif 4 0 29 0 7.25

Big Daddy, I agree with you, Asif has been rubbish so far but lets not write of the player just yet give the guy some chance to prove himself.
The thing with the pakistani attack at the moment is that there are no genuine pacers in the side. Dirk Nannes, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait have proven to be successful because of their pace. I mean if players like Tait are taking regular wickets it shows that pace does count. Most of the time he bowls wide and because of his speed alot of batsmen are beaten for pace. He also tends to get at least one at the stumps which gets him a wicket. He just has pace but his accuracy is rubbish but its shown to work for him. At the moment in the whole of Pakistan there arent any bowlers that i know of that can bowl 90 mph+ |
